Cooper taps voting access advocate, judge Allison Riggs to NC Supreme Court
Riggs is a state Court of Appeals judge who previously served as an attorney for the Southern Coalition for Social Justice. Riggs, a Democrat, replaces outgoing Democratic Justice Mike Morgan.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper on Monday appointed voting access advocate and state Court of Appeals Judge Allison Riggs onto the state Supreme Court.
Riggs now replaces Justice Mike Morgan, who resigned from his post last week in an anticipated run for a different elected office. Morgan has seriously considered a gubernatorial bid— a move Cooper appeared to stymie last month when endorsing Attorney General Josh Stein’s campaign for governor.
