Cooper endorses Stein

Amid state Supreme Court Justice Michael Morgan's possible gubernatorial candidacy, Gov. Roy Cooper endorsed Attorney General Josh Stein to be his successor.

Remember last week when North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Michael Morgan said he would leave the bench? Well, that was seen as a move to contest Attorney General Josh Stein’s bid for governor.

At a Jan. 19 event in Raleigh, Gov. Roy Cooper declined to endorse Stein’s bid to hold the same seat in 2024. Now, seven months later and with a potential challenge to Stein, Cooper formally endorsed Stein.

Now, as Morgan appeared poised to run for governor, the Democratic incumbent Gov. Roy Cooper announced his support for Stein.
