Down 35 votes, Wray requests recount
North Carolina state Rep. Michael Wray on Monday requested a recount in a race he appears to have narrowly lost. He's the most conservative Democrat in the legislature.
North Carolina Democratic state Rep. Michael Wray formally requested a recount in the tightest legislative primary in the state on Monday afternoon, according to new filings submitted to the State Board of Elections.
With all counties fully reporting and 11,939 ballots cast, Wray trails educator Rodney Pierce by 35 votes, or 0.3 percentage points. Under state law, recounts may be requested for General Assembly contests decided by 1% or less.
