North Carolina's most conservative Democrat loses contentious reelection bid
On Monday, state Rep. Michael Wray conceded to educator Rodney Pierce in the closest legislative contest in the state, dealing a blow to Republicans who had leaned on Wray to cross party lines.
North Carolina Democratic state Rep. Michael Wray on Monday admitted defeat to Rodney Pierce, a social studies teacher and liberal primary challenger.
“I have served the citizens of House District 27 for 20 years,” Wray said in a statement. “I am proud of the work I have done, and with every vote I cast, did my best to represent their interests.”
