What's in the Medicaid expansion deal and what's left out?
The Senate is expected to pass the measure next week. It will then go to House for approval. Once a budget is enacted, Medicaid expansion would become law.
North Carolina lawmakers on Tuesday released the language of a Medicaid expansion compromise reached by the state’s top Republican legislators.
The plan is poised to provide health coverage to an estimated 600,000 North Carolinians, but only if the state enacts a new budget and the federal government continues to cover at least 90% of the cost of Medicaid recipients.
The plan will have committee votes in the Senate this week and a likely floor vote next week. It would then go to the House, which would then send it to Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper.
