Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris held dueling rallies in North Carolina on Wednesday in an effort to bolster enthusiasm in the pivotal swing state that could be decided by the slimmest of margins.
Harris and speakers introducing her urged people to head to the polls immediately ahead of the 3 p.m. Saturday deadline for in-person early voting.
"We need you to vote early, North Carolina, because we have just six days left in one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime. And we have work to do,” Harris told supporters.
By Wednesday morning, nearly 3.37 million ballots had been cast, with Republicans accounting for a plurality of the votes. Despite there being more than 110,000 registered Democrats in North Carolina than Republicans, there have been 42,000 more registered GOP voters casting ballots than Democrats thus far. While GOP turnout is at 49%, Democratic turnout is at 45%.
