Supreme Court blocks certification of high court race
Democrat Allison Riggs was on track to having her victory certified on Friday. The 5-2 conservative majority state Supreme Court has blocked that from happening.
The North Carolina Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked state elections officials from moving forward with certifying an apparent victory for Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs over GOP challenger Jefferson Griffin.
Griffin is seeking to throw out more than 60,000 votes, largely on the grounds that voters with incomplete registration shouldn’t have been allowed to cast a ballot. The 5-2 conservative majority high court will delay certification by at least two weeks.
Riggs’ campaign didn’t immediately comment.
