North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein signed his first bill into law on Wednesday.

Under House Bill 47, western North Carolina will benefit from $528 million in state relief to address Hurricane Helene.

An additional $217 million will aim to complete housing reconstruction in eastern North Carolina from Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. The measure passed with near unanimous support and was signed into law within a couple hours of its final passage.

“We will never be fast enough for what people need,” Stein said.
