Stein pleads for Trump to reverse FEMA's refusal to extend NC's 100% match on Helene recovery
Gov. Josh Stein had wanted a six-month extension. He now wants the president to step in for a 90-day reprieve.

As western North Carolina continues to recovery from Hurricane Helene, it will transition to a period of reduced support from the federal government.
On Friday, Democratic Gov. Josh Stein received a letter from FEMA denying his request for a six-month extension of the 100% federal cost share for debris removal and emergency protective measures. The agency said it concluded the increased funding level “is not warranted” and gave Stein 30 days to appeal the decision.
In response, the governor called on President Donald Trump to step in.
