Senate approves budget, heads to final procedural votes on Friday
Republicans praised tax cuts and expansion of the state's opportunity scholarship program. Democrats blasted the budget's provisions allowing lawmakers to decide whether to release their own records.
The Senate approved the budget by a party-line vote of 28-19. It now heads to final procedural votes in the House and Senate on Friday at 12:05 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., respectively.
During a roughly three-hour debate, Democrats took aim at provisions of the budget that stand to allow lawmakers to destroy records that are presently accessible to the public.
Republicans defended the budget, citing tax cuts, expanded school choice and more infrastructure spending.
