Republicans give initial floor approval of new voting maps
On Tuesday, House and Senate Republicans approved the latest versions of legislative and congressional maps. Democrats secured just one of seven offered amendments.
North Carolina lawmakers on Tuesday voted along party lines to give initial approval on the chamber floors to their proposed legislative and congressional maps.
Six of seven amendments offered by Democrats were rejected or not taken up.
The proposed changes to the maps would have kept the interim congressional map used in 2022 in place for the remainder of the decade, changed the political makeup of the state Senate’s northeastern districts, restored Sen. Natasha Marcus’ Mecklenburg County district and given Black voters more sway state House races.
