One of North Carolina’s highest-ranking Republicans will leave office on Wednesday.

Senate Majority Leader Paul Newton, the Cabarrus County Republican and third-highest ranking senator, announced on Tuesday that he’ll be resigning in order to pursue an opportunity outside of state government.
