Bryan: I'll add this from my 14 years experience as an election official in Durham (12) and Wake(2) Counties; I believe voters can also go either to NCSBE.gov or to their county's board of elections website and complete a new voter registration form. There definitely is a link on the NCSBE website Of course the new registration form must be mailed or taken by the voter to their local county board of elections office. This would be for the vast majority of persons who are missing either their Social Security number or NCDL number on their original registration.

Confused about an aspect of this case. I understand that provisional votes are not counted. Once counted (after being resolved), I had thought there was no way to associate a ballot with the voter (not the case with a provisional ballot which is sealed and not counted). So can a counted vote be "uncounted" if you are not able to associate the counted vote with the voter?

We had a US House district election in 2018 that was thrown out because one member of the State board of elections refused to certify it.

There was a lot of media innuendo suggesting that one candidate's agent had broken election laws and they got hold of some people who backed up that suggestion.

As far as I know, no court has found that that election was affected by any irregularities but only the news media found the agent guilty.

I was robbed of my vote in that election without legal justification.

Based on our experience with how that election was thrown out, I'd say that what Griffin's doing is only customary and reasonable.

He's playing by existing rules of the game.

You don't change the rules to suit one side.

I really cannot believe this is still going on and that massive spreadsheets are required. Goodness.

So every-time a Democrat wins it’s going to be either they stole the election or many voters voted fraudulently. Let alone this is being decided by two republican judges. Maybe their votes should be checked.

Serves you democrats right. Stop cheating. There is no way that Judge Griffin won by 10,000 votes on November 5 and lost by 732 on December 4. The NC Board of Elections has allowed voter records that were cured a long time ago to stay in the list of uncured voters just for this type of challenge. Just so they could point to the curable (in fact - already cured) cases, and sound reasonable making the argument all the voter records were curable.

Bryan, thank you for this. However one slight amendment to your piece. Even if voters go online or to their board of election to “fix” the registration that there was nothing wrong with to begin with, it won’t ensure that their vote in the 2024 election would be counted. How that happens is unclear right now and really dependent on what happens in the courts so while I think it’s useful for voters to check on their own registration, it’s not the end of the story and doesn’t “cure” their ballot for the purposes of this litigation.

For anyone on the Griffin list, Thegriffinlist.com staying in touch with the NCDP or following it on social media is important. Also, I’m sure you will be reporting!

Indeed, there is no cure process in place or notifications going out to voters because the court decision has been halted. I've been trying to get clarity from the NCSBE on its recommendations to voters. The best they have provided thus far is for incomplete registrants to do the DMV form and/or contact their county elections boards. This is not as the end all be all, but one option that could resolve many of peoples' issues. There's no one-size-fits-all solution right now.
