Getting outraised 32-to-1, explaining the mundane auditing process to voters and refusing to make any campaign promises isn’t exactly the playbook for success one might expect of a first-time statewide candidate.

But for Jack Clark, a soft-spoken, mild-mannered accountant and legislative research assistant running for state auditor, the candor has paid dividends.
