NC developing 'enhanced security plans' for lawmakers amid Minnesota killings
In an email to lawmakers on Monday, General Assembly Police Chief Martin Brock said his department is working to ensure lawmakers remain safe.
North Carolina lawmakers will soon see added security protocols in and around the Legislative Building to ensure their continued safety, according to an email obtained by Anderson Alerts on Monday afternoon.
In the internal email sent to lawmakers on Monday afternoon, General Assembly Police Chief Martin Brock said his department is "working on enhanced security plans” to keep members safe.
The development follows a targeted political attack on Minnesota lawmakers that resulted in the killing of Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark.
When reached for comment, Brock declined to elaborate on what the added protocols might look like, citing security concerns. (Before reporting on this email, Anderson Alerts took steps to ensure that releasing it publicly wouldn’t compromise members’ safety).
