'Problematic and concerning': Democrats push back on GOP efforts to link casinos to Medicaid expansion
House Republicans are considering filing a bill that would make Medicaid expansion contingent on the creation of new casinos. Democrats are vowing to oppose the efforts.
North Carolina House Republicans are planning to hold votes Wednesday and Thursday on two separate bills: the state budget and a measure linking Medicaid expansion with the creation of new casinos.
The latter proposal is generating much pushback.
On Monday, 19 of the 20 Democrats in the state Senate wrote an open letter demanding the GOP abandon its efforts to couple Medicaid with casinos.
“We are united in opposing this latest political stunt,” the cohort wrote.
