Cooper rules out presidential run, eyes potential US Senate bid, spot in Harris administration
In an interview on Monday with Politico outside the floor of the Democratic National Convention, Gov. Roy Cooper left open the possibility of a role in a Harris administration or 2026 U.S. Senate run.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper weighed in on his political future during an interview with Politico on Monday. The Democrat who will soon to be termed out of the governor’s office ruled out a future presidential run and expressed interest in a 2026 U.S. Senate bid or spot in a potential Kamala Harris administration.
“This job as governor has been an extraordinary opportunity, and it's hard to believe that there won't be something for me to do in public service,” Cooper said. “I just don't know what that is yet. I think after I finish my term and assess the situation and see where I might be needed then, then I'll make the decision at that time. I think everything is on the table.”
Asked if that future included a 2028 presidential run, he replied, “Nah, I'm not gonna run for president.”
