NC Auditor Beth Wood to resign, will leave office Dec. 15
North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood's resignation comes as she faces a grand jury indictment over allegedly misusing a state vehicle for personal purposes.
North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood will leave office with an effective resignation date of Dec. 15, she confirmed Thursday evening.
Anderson Alerts first reported the news after a source directly familiar with the matter first informed me of the development.
The news comes after the Democratic officeholder was indicted on Tuesday on a misdemeanor charge alleging Wood misused a state-owned car to run personal errands, including driving to and from hair appointments, dentist visits, spa outings and out-of-town shopping centers.
The resignation is part of a deal struck with Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman, according to the source familiar with the matter. Under the deal, Wood will avoid a criminal trial and retain her pension, the source said.
