North Carolina lawmakers on Thursday held their first committee hearings since unveiling new legislative and congressional maps. Before I dive into the maps themselves and what they mean, here’s what you need to know about the process:
The GOP-majority legislature’s maps frustrated Democrats., many of whom questioned the process by which the maps were made by noting there were only three public forums, no live-streaming of lawmakers drawing maps on terminals and no allowance for public comment during Thursday’s non-voting meetings.
