When Addison McDowell announced his candidacy for a Greensboro-area congressional seat in December, he had a lot of ground to make up.

The little-known lobbyist and former district staffer to then-Rep. Ted Budd had never run for public office before and struggled out of the gate in messaging the surprise endorsement he received from former President Donald Trump. For weeks, McDowell’s campaign website was a mere static page with no policy positions or even a biography.
