Mark Harris wins primary, on track to serve in Congress
Harris' 2018 congressional bid was upended by an absentee ballot collection scandal in Bladen County. His 2024 primary win comes in spite of more than $2 million in outside spending against him.
Republican pastor Mark Harris won North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District on Tuesday, dealing a major blow to party insiders who spent heavily against him.
Harris narrowly surpassed the 30% threshold needed to claim the nomination outright, edging out businessman Allan Baucom and more soundly defeating state Rep. John Bradford. Realtor Leigh Brown, former Navy officer Don Brown and GOP activist Chris Maples also sought the Republican nomination.
