In NC's lone congressional runoff, a battle brews between two influential families
In the Triangle-area 13th Congressional District, attorney Kelly Daughtry and former federal prosecutor Brad Knott are competing in a May 14 runoff.
Today for The Assembly, I am out with a profile of the 13th Congressional District Republican primary. Whichever Republican wins the runoff on May 14 is all but assured to go to Congress in 2025.
The Triangle-area contest has become a battle between prominent political operatives and two politically-connected families: the Daughtrys and the Knotts. And barring any changes to the congressional map this decade, attorney Kelly Daughtry or former federal prosecutor Brad Knott could hold the seat for years to come.
Even so, the candidates are looking to present themselves as their own person and the staunchest conservative in the race.
