Griffin expresses regret over participating in 'inappropriate' Confederate-themed frat events while at UNC

Republican Court of Appeals Judge Jefferson Griffin participated in Confederate-themed events while studying at UNC-Chapel Hill in the early 2000s, according to a photo obtained by Anderson Alerts.
For years, the Kappa Alpha fraternity held parties and an “Old South” event in which its members dressed up in Confederate apparel. Griffin served as the group’s president at the time.
“Over twenty years ago, I attended a college fraternity event that, in hindsight, was inappropriate and does not reflect the person I am today.” Griffin said in a statement to Anderson Alerts. “At that time, like many college students, I did not fully grasp the broader historical and social implications. Since then, I have grown, learned, and dedicated myself to values that promote unity, inclusivity, and respect for all people.”
