Former North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Mike Morgan will run for governor, setting up a contested Democratic primary against Attorney General Josh Stein.
Morgan resigned from his judiciary post on Friday, hinting over the last several weeks and months that he could run for governor.
Morgan first shared the news of his gubernatorial candidacy with the Raleigh News & Observer in an interview from his house in Raleigh on Monday.
