Federal judge, NC elections board deal major blow to Griffin's effort to overturn NC Supreme Court race
On Friday, a federal judge denied a request Griffin made for intervention. Meanwhile, the State Board of Elections concluded that his ongoing election protests wouldn't change the outcome of the race.
A federal judge on Friday rejected a request by Republican Court of Appeals Judge Jefferson Griffin for intervention in his apparent defeat to Democratic Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs.
Meanwhile, the Democrat-controlled State Board of Elections on Friday concluded that Griffin’s outstanding election protests wouldn’t be enough to alter the outcome of the election. In a 3-2 party-line vote, the state board reached the same conclusion for three Republican second-place finishers in legislative races: Ashlee Adams in Senate District 18, Stacie McGinn in Senate District 42 and Rep. Frank Sossamon in House District 32.
"Each of these candidates won these elections by an amount in excess of the number of protests,” Democratic Chairman Alan Hirsch said.
