Cooper rejects bill seeking to strip him of appointment powers
Senate Bill 512 changes the way members are appointed onto several boards and commissions by reducing the influence of the state's Democratic governor and giving more power to Republican lawmakers.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper on Thursday vetoed a bill seeking to reduce his ability to appoint members onto key state boards and commissions.
Republican lawmakers supported the effort in party-line votes last week and are likely to override the governor’s veto in the coming week or two.
Under Senate Bill 512, Cooper would lose the following appointment powers:
