In partnership with The Assembly, today I broke down some campaign finance quirks that you may find interesting.

Under federal law, state-level candidates aren’t allowed to transfer funds from state campaign accounts to federal ones. This is disappointing news for state lawmakers eying a seat in Congress, such as House Speaker Tim Moore of Cleveland County and Rep. Erin Paré of Wake. While they still have a strong donor network, Moore and Paré won’t be able to tap into the $422,000 and $65,000, respectively, that they had in their state campaign coffers as of July 1.

However, when it comes to federal candidates running for state office, each state is free to set its own rules.
