North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson put himself on the political map in 2018 after delivering a fiery speech about gun rights during a Greensboro City Council meeting.
It’s a moment that set in motion a string of opportunities that propelled him to victory in the 2020 lieutenant governor’s race and secured him the GOP’s gubernatorial nomination earlier this year.
But those weren’t the first political roles for Robinson, an Anderson Alerts review shows.
Months after Robinson’s speech in Greensboro, Senate leader Phil Berger appointed him onto the African American Heritage Commission— a group tasked with preserving and protecting Black history, arts and culture. Robinson didn’t show much interest in participating.
